Q - What does the container look like?
A - Our all-steel, weatherproof containers come in two sizes – 12-foot and 16-foot – and we can deliver as many as you need. Our steel “barn-style” doors offer greater security than traditional roll-up doors.
Q - How much stuff can fit into one container?
A - A 12-foot container typically holds 1-2 rooms of household goods (and is typically available for local orders only), and a 16-foot container typically holds 3-4 rooms of household goods.
Q - Where will you put the container?
A - We can generally put the container on any flat, weight-bearing surface that does not have obstructing tree limbs or power lines. For delivery, we will need 13.5 feet of height clearance free from obstruction, 12 feet of width clearance free from obstruction and a total length of approximately 55 feet of maneuverability for the driver to position the truck for off-loading. (We can always view your area on Google Maps to determine any challenges. We do not often encounter difficulty. Please indicate if your driveway is steep beyond 6 degrees of inclination.)
Q - I don’t have a driveway. Do I need a permit to put a PACK-RAT container in front of my house?
A - In most cases you do not need a permit to have a storage container placed in front of your home. However, you should consult your city or town hall for the local regulations.
Q - Do I have to leave the container at my house?
A - No! As soon as you load up your container, we can take it to one of our secure, climate-controlled warehouses until you need it again.
Q - What if I don’t know how long I will need my container?
A - No problem! Use it for a month or store it for a year! We’ll pick it up from your location or return it to you from our warehouse on your schedule. No advance planning necessary.
Q - Can I get into my container at the storage facility?
A - Give us 48 hours notice, and we’ll move your PACK-RAT unit to one of our secure staging areas – well-lit, safe and car-accessible locations within our warehouse. Or for a nominal fee, we can deliver your portable storage container to you so you can get what you need or add more.
Q - Will my stuff be safe?
A - Yes! Our containers are constructed of steel. And only you have the key to your container, whether it is on your property, in one of our storage facilities or en route to you. Our loading mechanism keeps your container level when being picked up and delivered for transport, which minimizes shifting and subsequent damage to your belongings. We also offer additional Customer Protection Plans (CPP).
Q - Will you help me load my container?
A - We have special relationships with third-party moving companies who offer our customers great deals on helping them pack or load their containers.
Q - How much does it cost?
A - 1-800-PACK-RAT segments its services in two major segments - Local Service and Long-Distance Moving Services. We work very hard to stay competitive with our pricing, continuously analyzing costs to be able to provide best pricing.
To get a local moving or storage quote, simply fill out this short form to get a quote. Your quote will include your monthly rent, total due at delivery, estimated future transportation costs and all taxes.
Pricing for long-distance moving is more complicated, as the final cost depends on the distance between ZIP codes, the flexibility of your move dates, container availability and more. You can get an online quote to find out if you will need to speak to a 1-800-PACK-RAT moving specialist over the phone.
Q - Will you prorate for unused days?
A - Take your time loading and unloading your container: The first 30 days of use of your container is included! For additional use of the container, we do not offer prorated services at this time. We will work with you to match your payments with your schedule. Our customer representatives will be happy to help you get the best value from your container!
Q - Can I pay with multiple credit cards?
A - Yes. Just provide the various charge information and the manner you want the total charge distributed between the credit cards.
Q - Can I pay one lump sum for my move and projected storage/rental costs?
A - Unfortunately, rental charges utilize a separate collection process and must be billed monthly to the designated credit card on record.
Q - Can I pay with something besides a credit card?
A - Yes. Upon approval we can receive a cashier’s check as payment. You can also purchase a Visa Pay/Debit card at many grocery stores and other retailers and load the card with the amount you will need.
Q - Do you use secure processing services for my personal info?
A - Yes. We use state-of-the-art encryption method and have an IT team monitoring our systems around the clock.
Q - Can I manage my account online?
A - Yes, you can use My PACK-RAT to manage your local moving and storage account.
