How to Prepare Your New Home Before Household Moving Company Arrives

Moving is a Herculean task.  Your checklist to prepare you for moving day will be a mile long.  And as moving day approaches you will be focused on finishing packing, firming up details with your household moving company, cleaning your home and leaving everything ready for the next renters or new owners.  It's easy for preparing your new home to get lost in the shuffle.  But make sure you don't forget to get your new home ready for when your household moving company will deliver your belongings.

Preparing Your New Home:

1.  Call utility companies at least two weeks in advance to turn on service. It will be difficult for your household moving company to move you in if there is no electricity.  And you'll want power and running water to get settled in.

2.  Confirm directions with your household moving company.  Print off a map and directions just in case.  Your moving team will likely have a GPS, but it's really helpful to have a back up with your address and directions.

3.  Have your new home cleaned.  If possible, set up a cleaning service prior to move in day so that you can actually put things away in clean closets and cupboards and use the kitchens and bathrooms without fear.

4.  Protect banisters and floors.  If you are concerned about parts of your home that may be damaged when the household moving company moves everything in, cover those areas or block them off.

5.  Know the routes in and out.  Decide how you want your household moving company to bring everything in.  Make sure the sidewalks and entryways are clear and that there is a place to park.
