5 Ways to Mind Your DITY Move Budget

Most people who decide to take on a DITY move do it because they are mindful of the cost.  And those who have hired a full service moving company to pack and move them can attest to the costly tab that can amount to.  Many people combine a professional moving company move with a DITY move, both for flexibility and to save money.  They will, for example, rent a portable storage container for those things that they can load themselves and hire a moving crew or company to handle the heavy stuff.  The DITY move combinations and options are numerous and can save you a bundle.  But if you are organized, you can make a DITY move even cheaper.

1.  Lighten your load.
Nothing can waste time and money like moving things you no longer want or need.  Do yourself a favor and pare down before you move.  Make some profits via a garage sale or get a tax deduction by donating those things.

2.  Make a moving checklist.
Organization is the key to any DITY move.  And doing a move yourself is impossible without a solid moving checklist to keep you focused and on task.

3.  Look for deals.
Hop online and look for coupons and promotion codes.  Call and ask companies directly for the latest deals and discounts they can offer.

4.  Take your time.
The more time you have, the more you can do yourself.  The more you do yourself, the less you have to pay for outside help.

5.  Find used materials.
Buying new boxes and packing materials is very costly and unnecessary.  Look for used moving boxes and materials on Craigslist and other classifieds listings.  Ask retailers for boxes they plan to recycle.  And use old magazines, newspapers, sweatshirts, towels, etc instead of buying new packing paper and other padding materials.
