1‑800‑PACK‑RAT, LLC is a portable storage and moving company dedicated to making moving and storage simple. With numerous storage facilities across the United States—and a growing network of containers and trucks—we help customers move and store their belongings wherever life takes them.

Our story began in 2001, when a North Carolina entrepreneur sketched an all-steel, weatherproof, portable storage container design that was jokingly referred to as a “pack rat” because of its ability to store everything. Partnering with one of the most experienced heavy-equipment manufacturers in the country, that idea became an innovative system capable of lifting a fully loaded moving container without swaying or shifting and gently placing it anywhere a truck can go.

In 2003, 1-800-PACK-RAT launched its first three locations in North Carolina. Within two years, the company expanded to more than 50 locations nationwide. This national network of storage facilities allowed us to broaden our services to include long-distance moving, where we quickly became an industry leader.

In 2018, 1‑800‑PACK‑RAT merged with Zippy Shell Incorporated through Virgo Investment Group, a middle‑market private equity firm. With Virgo’s support, we have continued to invest in new container assets, expanded locations, and enhanced customer service initiatives—ensuring we meet the evolving needs of our customers.
