1. Father's Day's roots can be traced back to the city of Spokane, WA. Sonora Smart Dodd, a native of Spokane, was inspired in 1909 by the recently recognized Mother's Day to have a day devoted to hard working and caring dads as well. Thanks to the efforts of Dodd and local leaders, the first Father's Day was held on June 19, 1910 in Spokane. The day of recognition began to catch on around the country, and was finally officially recognized as a national holiday by President Richard Nixon in 1972.

2. Spokane was the host of the smallest World's Fair while the event was still being held. The World's Fair 1974 was held in Spokane, with icons of the fair that can still be seen today, especially in the renovated Spokane Pavilion and Riverfront Park (which was once a railyard) which we both build specifically for the event. While the city was small, it showcased the natural beauty of the surrounding area as well as Spokane's dedication to environmental awareness.

3. The largest urban waterfall in the United States resides squarely within downtown Spokane. Spokane Falls, which is a part of the Spokane River, features a nearly 100ft drop across a nearly 500ft wide chasm into rapids-like waters. The falls are just a few minutes walk from a number of spots in downtown Spokane.
