1. There is a law in Madison that essentially states that no building can be taller than the state capitol building (1,032 ft) if it is within one mile of the structure. The idea was to make the capital building the icon of the downtown landscape, and ensure it's dome was the most prominent feature in the city scape. The capital building itself was built in 1917 with 43 different types of stone from six different countries and eight states. It is the only capital building in the United States with a dome made entirely of granite.

2. Madison has a deep love of United States history. The city itself was named after the fourth President of the United States, James Madison. Additionally, 30 downtown streets are named after signers of the Constitution.

3. Wisconsin as a whole is known for its cheese making prowess. So much so that Madison is home to the World Dairy Expo, an event that has been running since 1966. It is the largest such expo and is considered one of the largest tradeshows in the world.
